To gather your student loan information you will need your federal student loan PIN number and NSLDS file (federal student loan listing). This will help expedite your student loan counseling session. Your counselor can always assist you if you prefer to obtain this information during your counseling session.
If you already know your PIN, skip to Step 5.
If you need to request your PIN, please complete Steps 1 – 4.
Step 1- Go to the Federal Student Aid website. (You may also call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800-730-8913 if you run into any trouble obtaining your PIN).
Step 2- Click ‘Request A Duplicate PIN.’
Step 3- Complete personal security questions; click ‘Submit’.
Step 4- Click ‘Display now’ to show new PIN. Write it down and store it in a secure place. Do not give your PIN to anyone else. Now you’re ready to access your student loan information. Please complete steps 5 – 11.
To download your NSLDS file, please complete the following steps:
Step 5- Go to: https://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds/nslds_SA/
Step 6- Click ‘Financial Aid Review’ on the homepage.
Step 7- Click ‘Accept’ twice (for privacy policy and 128 bit encryption).
Step 8- Complete personal security questions; click ‘Submit’. (TIP: Use the last name you were using at the time you applied for your loans).
Step 9- Click ‘My Student Data Download’ to download student loan information. The file will be in ‘txt’ file format.
Step 10- Save downloaded ‘txt’ file to your desktop.
Step 11- Email ‘txt’ file as an attachment to an email.
